I have mostly shot at Xcal in Ashburn which is top notch but since I live in Springfield, I visited Sharpshooters and was very disappointed by the overall experience. The range is extremely cramped, with limited space between lanes, which made it uncomfortable and difficult to do anything. There is no safety briefing as I entered the range with others who were there for the first and then the junior staff attempted to show machoness by kicking someone out who was standing behind the line with an uncocked unloaded beretta despite it being pointed downrange. The amunition and range time is very expensive comparatively. While the facility may be convenient for some, I would recommend exploring other ranges that prioritize space, safety, and experienced oversight.

Sharpshooters has the advantage of being in a convenient location, but the overall experience has steadily declined over the past decade, which ultimately led me to let my membership lapse. If you just need a quick place to shoot, it gets the job done. However, for the membership costs and ammo pricing (for example, $35 for a box of 9mm FMJ), you may find better value at other ranges in the area such as NRA HQ Range or Silver Eagle. One ongoing frustration is the strict one-hour shooting limit. Even when the facility is nearly empty, staff will call you off the line rather than allow a little flexibility, which makes the experience feel rushed. The range also feels increasingly oriented toward tourists, new shooters in CCW or intro classes, and casual visits—often groups filming the experience for social media or shooters testing rapid-fire hardware. If that’s what you’re looking for, it works fine. But if you want a more serious training environment or a long-term membership experience, it may not be the best fit. There are also some safety and comfort concerns worth noting. When the range is crowded, the space behind the firing line is tight, leaving little room to move without bumping into others. Ventilation could be better as well—smoke tends to linger and the airflow doesn’t seem strong enough to clear it quickly. It’s a convenient option for a quick range trip, but for a more professional, well-maintained, and serious shooting environment, you may want to consider driving a bit farther.

Purchased a Q thunder chicken from them and waited around 5 months before i called the ATF to check if something had gone wrong. Turns out the guys at sharpshooter’s completely forgot to turn in my Form4 paperwork, And to make it even better whoever picked up the phone when i called to bring this issue up decided it would be a good idea to have an attitude and talk over me till i brought up that i had called the ATF and told them the situation.

The staff were friendly and the process is simple to get onto a range. However, parking and range lanes fill up quickly.
