Game commission hunting licenses / range permits do not apply here. State parks maintain this.
The SHOOTING RANGE is open daily from 8:00 AM until sunset. The pistol and rifle shooting range has targets at 10, 15, 25, 50, and 100 yards. The rifle range has covered shooting benches and the pistol range has various uncovered firing stations. Individuals and groups interested in using the shooting range facilities must purchase a range permit. Range permits are required for individuals 16 years of age or older. Permits may be purchased at the park office or through self registration at the range. This fee helps offset the cost of maintaining the range in a sustainable manner. Expect occasional bad behavior from some participants as the range does not have on site supervision. There is an archery range further down Pine Creek Road.
Well maintained area. Nice benches to shoot of off.
If I could get my 40 dollars back I would. Only 3 rounds in a rifle, 6 in a pistol. So only bolt action or revolver only. There was a gentleman up there with his son, shooting pellets guns, taking up 3 targets. Telling me I better only shoot 3 rounds, that’s the rules he said. Neither him nor his son had eye, or hearing protection on, and its posted in the rules. Guess he likes to cherry pick the rules. He said people that live around the range been complaining about gun fire. I will gladly drive to another range. Definitely will not be renewing my membership. So save your money for a different range.
"Possess, load, or discharge a firearm that contains: More than three rounds of single projectile ammunition at the rifle portion of the range. More than six rounds of single projectile ammunition at the handgun portion of the range." There's no valid reason for this rule. It's simply because a bunch of anti-gun bigots somehow got put in charge of this place. Basically only single shot rifles and 6-round revolvers are allowed...
Not allowed to use more than 3 rounds in a rifle
A prohibited act is to use a firearm that is loaded with more than 3 rounds for a rifle or 6 rounds for a pistol.
Went here once and paid $40 for an annual family permit (that's only good from when you buy it till Dec 31st of that year). Called park office first to check if it was open, and was told there was never a need to call, because they post on the website if the range is closed. Checked the park site this morning and it said there was some road paving going on so watch for detours. So on this rare day off work, I packed my disabled nephew, and a couple rifles, ammo, and everything we'd need to do some shooting. Drove the 45 minutes all the way up to the park, only to find the road was closed 2 miles short of the shooting range. Went to the park office to see if there was another way to get to the range with a guy in a wheelchair, but though the door was open, the office was dark. Wouldn't it have been nice if a state employee could have gone to the great effort to post on the site that the range was inaccessible due to a road closure? Apparently they couldn't be bothered.
An excellent little range nestled deep in the beautiful Little Pine state park. The range is well maintained and looked after by friendly and attentive park rangers.
