This used to be a great place to practice shooting. Now the hours are so limited that it is inconvenient and puts too many there at the same time

Second time going out. It was busy and everyone was present and worked together for safety and cleaning up.

Really used to enjoy coming to shoot here, but things have gone way down hill. I do like the addition of range staff to promote safety amongst shooters, this is really important, and I can say in the past it was needed with some of the riff-raff I have seen. However, some of the rules are over the top. For example, I can understand not allowing rapid fire for the rifle range, but the rule for the pistol range is 3 seconds between individual shots. They say it's a "hunting range", but ask yourself the last time you hunted anything with a 9mm handgun..... This is the only gun range available in the Columbia area for taxpayers, and shooters cannot properly practice self-defense style shooting. I don't know about you, but I l want to train to the standard at which would be required to defend myself and my family, and 3 seconds between shots is just not it. Firing hammer pairs, or controlled pairs at the target ensuring you are capable of being accurate on follow up shots following recoil is important in a self-defense situation. If the range staff cannot handle a handgun being fired more than 3 times in 10 seconds, the range should just be closed if safety is this big of a concern, it is a gun range after all, not a local park. The hours are only 12-6 PM 5 days a week. It is clear that the local government/ conservation dept. is involved when the range is only open 30 hours a week....., some morning hours would be a major improvement. Finally, the target stands on the pistol range are AWFUL, they don't stand up straight at all, they are shot to hell, the foam boards have barely any space to get push pins well secured, and the boxy wooden structure you have to shoot through is in rough shape, and is very unaccommodating to shooters under like 5' 8", I saw a lady who was practicing with the firearm resting in the window aiming for the top portion of the target, this wasn't lazy, her arms were up so high she had to get on her tippy toes to get a decent sight alignment. All in all, the hours have slimmed, the facilities have been allowed to degrade to poor levels on a poor design, and lastly the rules are not well thought out, a good balance of safety and common sense rules is important, but some rules ruin the range and what it is intended to be. I really hope the MO Dept. of Conservation can get its act together, and revive this range a little bit. It is really sad to see what it has become.

This range is great if you are an inexperienced or a dangerous shooter. If you are a good or competent shooter, this range is NOT good. The rules do not encourage fun safe shooting. The hours are TERRIBLE as well. Completely alienate 9-5pm workers.
