In Elk Neck State Park. Very basic. Pay $10 to use at the ranger station near the entrance to the park. You have to bring your own target stand and target. There is no range supervision so you are on your own for safety, and need to work closely with other shooters to call cease-fires to set or retrieve targets. Pistols only; the rifle and shotgun range is closed as of September 2025.

Disappointed , hours show they are open till 6 showed up at 4:45 and no one was at the office to get a daily permit. I'll try again in a few weeks...

Rifle ranged closed w/out posting to website Drove 50minutes to discover sign at permit area inside gun range Absolutely mis-managed relay of information for an educated branch of government

This is a great place to shoot if you’re not looking to be bothered with pricey indoor ranges. Unfortunately however, DNR officers do not know the laws surrounding the firearms permitted and it’s up to you to be smarter than they are. If you wish to bring anything legally considered a pistol, print out the law and keep it on you. The last Officer Numbnuts to confront me told me that my braced AR was a rifle due to the brace (which is wildly wrong, both on a state and federal level) so be sure to have the laws on hand and your camera rolling if they try. Unfortunately, DNR has no issue with unjustly serving tickets and it’s going to be up to the individual shooters to record the incident and bring the proof to the court. Orherwise, it’s an enjoyable place to shoot and most other shooters I’ve encountered have been courteous and we’ve had no safety issues otherwise. Just watch out for overzealous forest cops.

Absolutely a lovely place, so many options. Bow, handgun, long-guns, shotgun. Really what more can you ask for 10/10

My wife and I have been to the pistol range half a dozen times this year (2025) and really like it. The people there are courteous and respectful. They observe the schedule cold times and recently when someone’s target blew down, went cold so they could stand it back up. Good people, so far, so good.

Generally pretty good. There was someone with, what I thought was an AK-47. Very loud and shook the building. People were courteous and respected the rules of an outdoor range.
