Fun place with really nice staff
Great place... friendly helpful staff... great facilities... managed for safety... reasonable prices. Wish they would add Wednesdays to the schedule!
Despite their new "safety rules," this place is crawling with unsafe, untrained shooters who handle firearms dangerously — and the staff does nothing meaningful about it. Instead of enforcing real safety standards and removing oblivious or negligent individuals, they opt for a slap on the wrist and allow them right back on the line. You won’t find any serious USPSA or IDPA shooters here. Why? Because this range bans "rapid fire," defined as any shots fired within one second of each other. If any of the range staff were serious enough to shoot competitively, they would know controlled pairs, bill drills, etc. are fundamental drills for practical shooting training. So let’s get this straight: - Flag the entire firing line with a loaded rifle? No problem! Get a slap on the wrist and head right back out there. - Shooting controlled pairs into the A zone? Sir, you need to leave, that's unsafe. The message is clear: this range would rather cater to untrained hobby shooters than promote genuine marksmanship and safety. Trap shooting is okay. 2/5 stars
I've been going there for at least 20 years. Safety rules have tightened up over the years. Not altogether a bad thing. I'd give them 5 stars if they started selling ammo again. I'm sure they have reasons for no longer selling it. But it would be nice if they even just sold .22 LR and 9mm.
I’ve driven out a multiple times when it said it was open and it was actually closed. Would be great if the hours were kept up-to-date to avoid the hassle. Also they actually close at 3:45, not 4.
This is our go-to for my family for all of our shooting endeavors. They have ranges for most firearms and plenty of room for all. We prefer to practice outdoors, and we drive here from Des Moines just for the setting. Staff is friendly and attentive. A variety of targets are available along with safety protection. Both quite reasonably priced. Bring your questions, for they're ready to answer any and all. If you're looking to mag dump go to an indoor that allows it. You have choices.
Showed up to go shooting on December 28th because the DNR website said it was open to find a closed gate. Just another example of government incompetence.
This fudd range was built and run with tax dollars, yet they charge fees per person to use this "public" range while pushing ridiculous rules against customers. Staff act like typical government employees hungry for money and power. You can not build necessary skills particularly in defensive situations, considering double taps and "rapid" fire are banned. I avoid this range at all costs. Bunch of anti 2a clowns.
Friendly and helpful employees, great options and pricing.
