This review is based on experiences of about 2 years ago. Overall, I am not impressed with LeadFeather (LF). The best aspects of this store are their CWL requisite class (and price of), & the store internal aesthetic & appeal. LF is generally outcompeted in terms of ammo, guns, & range pricing with respect to what is available to the average person in Winter Haven/Polk County. Their range is rather lack luster for what they ask but I don’t blame them considering their proximity to a general populous. LF pricing the range based on higher demand is understandable. With that said, the range has rather limiting usage. But in comparison to most other local options, it’s AC controlled. At least they have one and seemingly maintain it. I commend LF for providing a free “Triple Tap Card” to all CWL req class—purchasers. The instruction was proper & well conducted. But that is not the main portion of LF’s offerings. Regarding technical & maintenance services: When I inquired about tapping 2 screws holding an optic mount cover plate, a young man said they can’t perform those services. He then told me ‘we’re looking to get into milling & all those services soon’ & suggested to check in later. They did confirm the firearm in question wasn’t sold by them, it wasn’t, though being stock & unused. I still question the lack of services provided at that time while advertising gunsmiths work. Maybe the young man wasn’t trained enough to understand what I asked, considering, he mentioned milling in his response to my inquiry of tapping the screws of an optics plate installed onto my already optics ready firearm-As implied. I’m grieved at the disappointment & dissatisfaction of initial customer service that resulted in loss of seeing the gunsmiths’ work. Not all but on a few occasions I’ve been met with cold, stern, & unmotivated associates. I understand their business is under a larger presumptive threat & risk than most, but being starred at without any greeting or smile is off-putting. Being observant doesn’t exclude friendliness, we aren’t strangers on the street nor close family. I don’t expect unwelcoming nor being treated as royalty or your best customer. I highly question some associates’s industry & product knowledge; i.g. being personally recommended mechanical iron sights for a firearm that exceeds the tolerances of the recommended optics. A more senior clerk clandestinely criticized the recommendation of the other but still allowed it. I suppose a sale is a sale even if it results in customer detriment. 2nd example: I inquired about Zastava AK’s & if LF can order them. LF’s clerk said ‘no, I’ve not heard of them’ but asked me some info about Zastava. I said they’re a large, Serbian manufacturer especially for AK platforms. The clerk, whom was with LF for years, said ‘we can’t get those because of the Russian sanction’. I stared at his serious face, nodded ok, & carried on observing LF’s displays laughing to myself. The lack of awareness left me aghast. *Even if* there was a Serbian (not Russian) sanction, he not once checked to see if LF’s suppliers had Zastava’s, at least before an immediate “no” & subsequently leaving. Instead, LF’s clerk made a judgement call based on ignorance and laziness. There are a few other grievances I have but I’m limited on character space. Overall, I’m disappointed due to prices (guns/ammo), customer service, & expectable convenience and utility (small range) the general populous can get from LF. They have their competitive points but these are so few. I do not recommend based on my past (potentially outdated) experiences, but maybe LeadFeather has improved.
