While the range is somewhat new, they could have made the pistol range bigger. With all the real estate available at this site, they did not use the available space wisely. There could be 3 times the size of a pistol range. There is plenty of space that is marked "keep out" and the amount of space used for shooting is about half the size it could've been. The rifle range (up to 300yds) is nice but the gong targets are fixed position and it's hard to hear sometimes. If they hung with slack, you would hear it ring. They also have signs prohibiting the use of personal targets. Would be very nice if there was a range officer so you could use your own targets.
Past 6 months it will close early without warning. Wasted multiple Saturdays trying to go out there for the gates to be locked. Now its closed due to fire hazard.... crazy the government can keep legal gun owners from using thier weapons Edit after BOX canyon reply: Ok so you addressed vaguely the fire restrictions when you could have elaborated here but advise to call to get the info. Helpful, also what about closing hours early in April and March prior to the fire restrictions. I drove there multiple time for it to be closed well before the online stated close times. It honestly has been a joke trying to come here.
Great place to target practice. JUST ALWAYS CLOSED!!!! fire danger, no money to blade a fire break!
Zero fires , we’ve literally had heavy rain and still closed . Ridiculous
Big fan of all the range/target selections Love all the trash cans... But can we get some tables? I'd give my left nut for a little counter space
Great place to shoot! Opens daily at 7am, closed on Wednesdays and closing hours differ during seasons. There is a pistol range with short range steel targets and longer range too. There is a shotgun area for clay and skeet shooting. This is the only area you can set up your own equipment on the firing line. The pistol and rifle range are standing only. You should consider bringing a folding table and even a seat as there are no tables or benches, etc. Vault toilets, concrete handicapped parking, and information signs are posted. Yes, this has a family atmosphere so plan to bring the family anytime... Did I forget to mention that the admission is free?! Volunteer range masters are there sporadically throughout the day and are very nice!!
Great shooting experience, no charge, 15 & 25yd pistol ranges, 100yd rifle range and clay shooting. Is awesome
Thank you BLM! Nicely done! Short range for pistol and long range for rifle! You all done it right! My only recommendation is have a spotter to watch for careless folks that need more safety with arms. I do recommend canopy as the AZ sun can be too much and bring water and table if you need. Great range in the 85139!
This was a great option for the family to shoot. All the other shooters there were courteous and friendly. The only thing that kept this from being a 5-star event was the complete lack of shade. There was no shade on, or behind the line. Good times were had by all though.
